"Just be positive" is a statement we've all heard at some point in our lives, especially during moments of difficulties. As simple as this statement is to say, putting it into action isn't easy. Creating a positive mindset consistently takes practice as we live in a world where negativity is more evident than positivity. Developing a positive mindset might be quite difficult especially if you struggle with a lot of negativity before. However, for a start, in this blog post, we're going to take it slow and steady by highlighting 5 simple yet effective ways you can practice POSITIVITY.
1. Use affirmations: I highly recommend the use of affirmations in practicing positivity. Positive affirmations are short, positive statements that you can repeat regularly to yourself. Examples of positive affirmations can be: Today's going to be a great day! I'm successful! It keeps getting better! I'm gonna get this job and I'm gonna do it well! I'm alive and well! Remember to keep it short and precise. That way, it is easier to remember and repeat. Also, make sure it's positive and in the present tense, stating what you want exactly. It's advisable to also leave note cards around where you will regularly see them and remind yourself daily. This routine might sound simple but you will be surprised at how effective it can be in creating a positive mindset and energy.
2. Focus on the present: Many of us have deprived ourselves of happiness because we worry a lot about the past. We dwell so much on the negative moments in our past lives and allow them to affect our present. Some of us even worry about the future rather than focusing on the present. This shouldn't be! Try and remove this worry about the past and future moments and focus on what you can control right now. You will be surprised at how much positivity you can exude when you let go of insignificant worries and focus on your present.
3. Surround yourself with positive people: Surrounding yourself with positive people has to be the highest of all ranks in the power embedded in positive thinking. When you are surrounded by people who care about your growth and remind you of how great you are and how much you can do to get better, it will be easier to keep a positive lifestyle. Look at the people around you now and ask yourself: Does this person lift me or support me? Or do they put me down and make themselves feel better? Your answer will tell you the kind of company you keep. In case it's the other way around, it's about time to leave that circle and be on the lookout for those who will match your positive energy. Also, note that you have a part to play. As you are looking for people who will always support and lift you, be ready to also do the same. The energy must be reciprocated.
4. Do something nice for someone: Sometimes, all it takes to feel positive and practice positivity is by doing something nice for someone. You can likely find that doing nice things for others can lift your spirit and make you feel fulfilled. It doesn't have to be something grand. Just a smile or "hello" to a stranger can make you feel positive and have a positive mindset that you are doing something meaningful for humanity. Don't wait for someone to inject your day with positivity. Instead, take charge and create a positive moment for someone else.
5. Identify areas to change: If you want to become more optimistic and engage in more positive thinking, you need to identify areas in your life that makes you dwell so much on the negative. Is it your work? Your relationships? Your friendships? Life situations? Identify it and start approaching it one by one in a more positive way. It's best to manage your stress by thinking positively instead of negatively.
Final words
Hi reader, I would love that you to apply these approaches to your daily life. Even if not all, start with one or two. Positivity tends to compound over time. Just do it and watch how it will play out. It will definitely play out fine! There will be an evident improvement.
