Depression has become a major issue in society today. It is becoming more prevalent than ever before. In truth, humans go through a lot, our lives are determined by what's going on around us, and we get depressed because of major life issues such as not meeting up to societal expectations, loss of work, failed businesses, relationship break-ups, anxiety, inferiority complex, body stature, etc and these tend to affect our day to day life greatly. Depression is real and it's everywhere, but how can we help ourselves get through depression? Here are seven (7) ways a depressed person can help himself/herself through depression:
1. Be optimistic: It isn't quite easy to stay positive especially when depressed. However, you have to delete all negative thoughts in your head. Challenge those negative thoughts with positive thinking. For example, a challenge to the thought "I can't do this, it's difficult" might be "I can do it", Or "how about I give it a try". Doing this consistently can really boost your optimism.
2. Do exercise and eat right: Doing exercise daily can help elevate your mood. When depressed, one practically tends not to feel like doing anything, you just have to push yourself, start small and do something enjoyable. You can take a short walk each day, do Yoga, do 10-15mins gymnastics exercises at home, listen to music and dance and many more suitable types of exercises for reducing depression.
Also, know the kind of food you eat. When one is depressed, it's quite possible to eat poorly and unhealthy. This should not be. Train yourself to eat fresh and healthy foods and fruits when hungry and down with depression. It will help improve your mood.
3. Celebrate yourself: You need to develop a pattern of celebrating yourself. Always remember those small wins you had and celebrate them. Recognize your successes, and celebrate them. This is a powerful tool against depression. Don't ever give in to those losses. Find space in your heart to be happy for the times you've won and the winning times to come.
4. Spend time with loved ones: Depression can cause isolation. It can make you isolate yourself from your family and friends but you need to resist this urge of isolation. Create a connection with family and friends, mingle, talk, chat, and have fun with your loved ones, it helps a lot.
And if you're unable to spend time physically; phone calls, Skyping, and video chats are available now to connect from anywhere in the world. Never feel you're a burden to your loved ones.
5. Do something you enjoy: Invest time in your hobby. Do something engaging, relaxing, exciting, energizing, something that will light up your mood and energy which may help you overcome depression.
6. Try something new entirely: Doing new things can improve your overall well-being and also strengthen your social relationships. Challenge your brain today by doing something entirely different. Stop doing the same thing day after day. Try a new sport, a new skill, or learn a new cooking technique.
7. Talk to a therapist/doctor: Speaking to a professional about what you're going through can also be helpful. They can access your symptoms and help develop a medical treatment procedure related to your symptoms. Visiting a doctor or therapist will determine you to open up fully about what you are really going through so they can find the best option of treatment for you.

Starting the aforementioned ways to deal with depression can be quite challenging at first but taking a step each day can help quickly reduce the symptoms of depression and increase the energy needed to overcome depression.
